This week I am thankful for so, so many things. Here are 5 of them…
1. …That I had such an incredible mom. She really showed me how to set [BIG] goals and how to reach them. She taught me how to fight for what I believe in and for that I am forever thankful.
2. …Late afternoon lunch dates that include fried ice cream.
3. …The ability to run. It was never something I ever considered to be anything I would everrrrr care about and now I actually look forward to it and enjoy it while I’m doing it.
4. …Impromptu clothing swaps with my seeester!
5. …PRETTY snow! I have not been complaining about the lack of snow this winter, but was hoping for just one pretty snow fall and today it happened! Now it can stop snowing until 2016.😉
This past weekend all I wanted was for a low key weekend and thankfully that’s exactly what it turned out to be.
After a 3 hour post-work nap Friday night Corey came over and we ate pizza and fried cauliflower at 2am and watched a whole lot of Boy Meets World. We pulled out every blanket in my apartment and laid on the floor and Corey gave me a massage, too. Basically he was awesome.
I would like to say, for the record, that The Godfather’s is now the best pizza I have had in Chicago (so far)! Before you even ask, no, I have not had Pequods yet, but I’ll let you know if I change my mind after I have.
Saturday we slept in (a must after watching BMW until 5AM) and then each left to run separate errands. On my way out of my apartment I pass this bit of concrete that has lots of little notes or names written in it and it made me happier during what was a sad few days.
On my way home from the gym while I was sitting at a red light I looked over and noticed this old couple in the window talking to the chef (I assume?) of a little restaurant. I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but it was obvious they were having a really great day. It was adorable!
Sunday was my nephew’s SEVENTH birthday party. I could hardly believe it. SEVEN! When did that happen?? We drove to SB to spend the afternoon partying it up and lovin’ on the little man.
Joey then and now!
After Joey’s party I demanded that we stop by Hacienda so I could pick up some salsa on our way home. We were both hungry so we stayed for lunch… and drinks… and dessert!
I am NOT a dessert person almost at all, but the fried ice cream was DE-LISH!
All in all it was a very nice and low key weekend followed by an even more low key Monday and Tuesday.
Lately all I’ve been doing is dreaming about travelling. At this point I have been living vicariously through this and this and oh yeah, this entire blog.
I look forward the day when I can explore and laugh in different places…

You’ll never guess what I did this morning.
Go ahead, try.
I highly doubt you guessed that I went to the gym. BEFORE work.
If you had guessed ate a doughnut or hit snooze 45 times that would have been more believable.
But I did it! I went to the gym before work, did my full workout, and still had plenty of time to get ready for work.
I’m fairly certain that there was only one reason why I actually got up and went to the gym at 7 in the morning and this is it. 40% off all workout clothes at Old Navy! I obviously had to show off my new stuff. What surprised me the most was that once I got there I was actually happy to be there. The track is on the top floor of the gym and has windows all around so there is nothing but bright sunshine in the mornings. Between the sunshine, The Band Perry pandora station, and that girl above who passed me every couple of minutes my motivation was at an all time high. I might just be able to hit my goal of running a 5k by March!
This weekend was everything that I needed and more.
Last summer I decided that Corey and I should go on more dates, so I came up with the idea that we would go on one special date each month. We would alternate months so really it’s only 6 times a year that we need to each come up with dates. Sounds great, right? Turns out Corey is much better at it than me. Since deciding this last summer he has taken me on two awesome dates and I have taken him on zero anything dates. Friday was to be the day when I actually held up my end of the deal. We were going to make #baconpancakes and then go see The Perks of Being a Wallflower at the Brew and View. Turns out it takes us 90 minutes to make bacon pancakes. By the time we were done eating there was no way we were going to (happily) sit through a 10:30 movie. So basically we hung out the rest of the night. And by hung out I mean Corey did his thing and I fell asleep.
Saturday night was SO much fun. One of Erin’s friends got married that afternoon and she took me as her date to the reception that night! Erin and I rarely get a chance to get out together because of our very different schedules so this was perfect. The reception was at the Chicago Cultural Center and everything was beautiful. The bride and groom looked ridiculously happy. Confession: I LOVE wedding food. I know most people fuss about it, but I really do love it. I may have eaten all of mine and finished Erins.
SundaySunday. I slept in, roamed around Barnes & Noble for a while, read a while, and THEN got to finish date night with my manfriend. I still really wanted to see The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but it didn’t start until 9 and I wasn’t interested in staying out that late on a ridiculously cold work night. Instead we saw Flight. While completely predictable, I still really enjoyed it. (the two cranberry vodkas may have helped a little *winkwink*) Date night was a great way to end the weekend and now I can finally say that I did my part and took Corey on a date. Although he did pay for the drinks.. dang. I’ll do better next time!
About a month ago I decided I had had enough. I went way too many months without a haircut so I was going to get a few inches cut off. Somewhere between telling the stylist that I want NO more than 4 inches cut off and finally looking at my new ‘do in the mirror the stylist cut off not 4… not 6… but EIGHT inches. I just about died. When she asked if I liked it all I could say was that it was shorter than I asked for. She told me that it had been too long since I got it cut and needed more cut off. Oh, okay… thanks for talking to me about it first. I didn’t tell anyone I was getting it cut (because I figured it would just be a few inches) so when I showed up at Corey’s 30 minutes later I was curious as to what he would say. About 10 minutes later he said he liked it. It took about half the night for me to agree that I liked it too.
However, a month later and I miss my long hair something awful. So now I’m trying to figure out what I can do to it that will make me dislike it less/like it more. Sooo. bangs? Don’t worry friends, this time I’ll leave the cutting to a professional.
I’m thinking something along the lines of these ladies (found via Pinterest…duh). Minus their beautiful long hair that I no longer have….
(^who is this girl?? should I know her??)
Let’s be real. I probably shouldn’t cut any more hair off, BUT if I do… what do you think?
